British Mother Vanishes with Two Young Sons After Skipping Court-Ordered Return

British Mother Vanishes with Two Young Sons After Skipping Court-Ordered Return — 1 of 5
1 / 5

A British mother accused of abducting her two young sons from their American father has been on the run in the UK for over three months. Five-year-old Blaine Baier and three-year-old Nathaniel Baier visited their mother, Nishika Samaratunga, in March under a court order following their parents’ divorce. She failed to return them at a UK airport on March 29 and their whereabouts remain unknown. Their father, Ben Baier of Colorado, has launched High Court proceedings to secure their return. He says both boys have autism and that the abrupt removal from their home disrupts their routine, education, and medical care. A US judge has warned they face imminent danger and authorised law enforcement to take custody if found. London’s High Court has approved the publication of the children’s names and photos to aid in locating them. British and American authorities, along with private lawyers, continue efforts to trace Samaratunga and ensure the safe return of Blaine and Nathaniel.

What do you think motivated her to skip the court-ordered return and vanish for over three months?

Do we know if she raised any concerns about her or her children's safety before disappearing?

It's notable that local authorities have offered few details about her whereabouts or any leads after the initial abduction report.

Maybe it's premature to assume the worst without hearing her side of the story or understanding the context of this family dispute.

Fathers and mothers in similar situations should secure clear legal counsel and maintain detailed documentation of custody orders.
