Chelsea Weighs Xabi Alonso, Andoni Iraola and Marco Silva for Manager Role

Chelsea Weighs Xabi Alonso, Andoni Iraola and Marco Silva for Manager Role — 1 of 2
1 / 2

Chelsea has identified Xabi Alonso, Andoni Iraola and Marco Silva as candidates for their next permanent manager after parting ways with Liam Rosenior. The club will take its time to vet each candidate, preferring experience at the top level. Interim coach Calum McFarlane will oversee first-team duties until a decision after the season. Marco Silva’s Fulham contract runs out this summer, and Andoni Iraola has confirmed his Bournemouth exit next month. Former Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso has been available since January. All three candidates have led their sides into European contention. Alonso’s résumé includes two Champions League titles as a player and a Bundesliga championship with Bayer Leverkusen in 2024.

Alonso's style actually fits best, even if people expect Silva. His tactical approach matches Chelsea's intensity and structure.

Interesting that none of the shortlisted candidates have ever managed at Chelsea before, despite the club's high expectations.

Maybe rushing to vet three high-profile names will just drag this decision out even longer.

Chelsea should outline clear criteria for the next manager and publish a timeline to keep fans informed of the selection process.
