Tinubu Approves N10bn, Establishes Presidential Ebola Preparedness Task Force

Tinubu Approves N10bn, Establishes Presidential Ebola Preparedness Task Force

President Tinubu has approved the creation of a Presidential Task Force on Ebola preparedness and emerging public health threats. He also released N10bn in emergency funds to strengthen Nigeria’s response capacity. The funding will boost the operational readiness of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control. The task force, chaired by the President’s Chief of Staff, will include representatives from relevant ministries, agencies and state governments. Key measures include enhanced passenger screening at international airports, activation of isolation centres in Lagos and Abuja, and a QR code–based health declaration system for travellers from high-risk countries. States with international airports and border corridors must submit detailed preparedness plans. The task force will work with aviation and security agencies on flight regulations and the designation of specific terminals for high-risk arrivals.

What measures do you think the new task force should prioritize with this N10bn allocation?

I agree we need robust surveillance systems and community awareness campaigns to detect and contain any Ebola cases quickly.

This feels like another headline promise until we see timely disbursement and on-the-ground coordination.

I'm not convinced a standalone task force is enough—strengthening existing health agencies might deliver faster results.

Perhaps setting transparent spending trackers and regular public updates could ensure that every naira reaches the front lines quickly.
