London Hosts UK’s Largest Multicultural March Against Far-Right Politics — 1 of 4
1 / 4

Tens of thousands joined the Together Alliance march in London to protest divisive far-right politics. Organisers claimed up to half a million attendees, while police estimated around 50,000 due to the crowd’s spread. Over 100 charities, trade unions and campaign groups moved from Park Lane to Trafalgar Square. The march featured support from actors, musicians and comedians, with performances by UB40, Hot Chip and others. Speakers such as Diane Abbott and Zack Polanski urged people to organise locally ahead of upcoming elections. Environmental activists from Extinction Rebellion and Cut the Ties to Fossil Fuels also took part. The Metropolitan Police reported seven arrests during the main rally and 18 at a separate pro-Palestine demonstration. Officers said they will resume arrests for supporting the banned group pending an appeal.

Absolutely, a massive march can push politicians to reconsider far-right measures and spark real policy debates.

Big turnout's impressive, but public protest alone rarely shifts policy without sustained political pressure.

Those big attendance claims always vary so widely—organisers say half a million, police only 50,000. Hard to tell who's closer to the truth.

Claiming this as a major blow to far-right politics seems premature without clear evidence of policy changes or sustained public pressure.

To turn momentum into impact, grassroots groups should follow up with targeted lobbying, community meetings, and consistent media outreach across regions.
