Sokoto Hisbah Bans Wedding Introduction Gifts, DJs and Other Social Practices

Sokoto Hisbah Bans Wedding Introduction Gifts, DJs and Other Social Practices

The Sokoto State Hisbah Board has banned several wedding and social-gathering practices it says conflict with Islamic teachings and public morality. The ban covers Na Gani In So, a marriage-introduction custom involving gifts such as soft drinks, water, biscuits, sweets and kola nuts. DJs and Wazigidi music at ceremonies have also been prohibited. Other restricted practices include loud sound systems on tricycles, women sitting beside tricycle riders, mixed-gender entertainment gatherings, hairstyles considered indecent for youths, and excessive spending on bridal gifts. Hisbah Commander Usman Abdullahi Jatau said the measures take immediate effect and urged families and intending couples to comply.
