Anger Over Ebola Death Sparks Fire at DRC Treatment Center
Relatives of a young man who died of Ebola in eastern DRC set fire to two treatment tents at Rwampara Hospital. They were demanding the return of his body after health officials refused access. The Bundibugyo strain, which has no specific cure or vaccine, has killed at least 160 people and left 78 others suspected in Ituri province. The WHO calls this outbreak a public health emergency of international concern. Health NGO ALIMA said six patients were moved into hospital wards after the attack. Police fired warning shots to disperse protesters and restore order. Officials warn that rumours and false information risk fuelling further mistrust and violence.
