Nnamdi Kanu Expels Chika Edoziem and Nine Senior IPOB Members for Alleged Betrayal

Nnamdi Kanu has announced the indefinite expulsion of 10 senior members from the dissolved third Directorate of State, led by Chika Edoziem. He accused them of abandoning him in detention, undermining his legal battles, and seeking to hijack IPOB for personal gain. In a statement posted by his brother, Kanunta Kanu, the IPOB leader said only the Supreme Leader has the authority to appoint or remove officers. He listed those expelled, including Chika Edoziem, Tony Nzurumike and Austin Agbanyim, saying their tenure expired in 2017 but continued at his discretion until the dissolution of that body. Kanu alleged the expelled members failed to support detained Biafrans with legal, welfare or medical aid. He also claimed they obstructed fundraising for his treatment, attacked his lawyers and spread false narratives to weaken his influence. He warned supporters that anyone associating with the expelled officials would be acting against IPOB and the Biafra cause. Kanu urged members worldwide to rally behind the new fourth Directorate headed by Chris Nwaọgụ, insisting his leadership remains intact despite imprisonment.

It's surprising that claims of betrayal and power grabs emerge just as the group restructures after legal battles.

E no clear why he choose to expel instead of resolving issues privately; this public showdown could deepen divisions rather than heal them.

Maybe IPOB should establish transparent procedures for internal disputes to prevent future allegations of betrayal or power hijacking.
