Eight Players Depart Kano Pillars as Club Commences Major Rebuild

Eight Players Depart Kano Pillars as Club Commences Major Rebuild

Kano Pillars have released eight players after their contracts expired, according to reports. Bernard Ovoke, Christian Izuchukwu, Sudais Ali Baba, Aliyu Yakubu, Muhammad Galadima, Ugochukwu Gabriel, Zahraddeen Bello and Williams Ayuba will leave the four-time NPFL champions. The club expressed gratitude for the departing players’ dedication and professionalism during their time at Sai Masu Gida. Last season proved challenging as Pillars secured their league status on the final day and exited early from the President Cup. Ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, Kano Pillars are undergoing a major squad overhaul. Head coach Mohammed Babaganaru, who steered the team clear of relegation, is expected to remain at the helm.

Totally! Losing that veteran big man really leaves a massive hole in their defence and scoring.

It's surprising that a four-time champion would let eight players go at once before any clear sign of incoming talent.

Releasing experienced names like Aliyu Yakubu and Christian Izuchukwu seems risky; maybe the board values youth over proven quality a bit too much.

They could focus on nurturing local talents in their academy to fill gaps and maintain a sustainable squad growth next season.
