Twin Quakes Kill 164 in Venezuela, Caracas and La Guaira in Ruins

A rare seismic doublet struck northern Venezuela, registering magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5. The twin shocks levelled buildings and shattered roads across Caracas and coastal La Guaira. Acting President Delcy Rodríguez has declared a state of emergency after confirming at least 164 fatalities and hundreds injured. Rescue teams are racing to free survivors trapped in concrete rubble while hospitals struggle with an overwhelming influx of casualties. Communication lines remain down in remote communities, raising fears the toll could rise as international relief groups join the search and recovery efforts.

It seems odd that two major quakes struck almost simultaneously in that region, pointing to deeper geological shifts than usual.

I'm not convinced the emergency declaration will speed aid distribution - I feel say bureaucratic delays fit frustrate rescue efforts further.

Local communities should prioritize establishing temporary shelters and clear debris from main roads to enable quicker medical and supply access in affected areas.
