Nigeria’s UN Ambassador Says Tinubu Will Tackle Root Causes of Insecurity
Nigeria’s new Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Jimoh Ibrahim, says President Bola Tinubu is determined to address longstanding grievances that fuel insecurity at home and across the region. Speaking after presenting his credentials to UN Secretary-General António Guterres in New York on April 20, Ibrahim noted that Nigeria’s strengthened UN presence will support efforts to resolve religious conflicts and crises rooted in historical grievances. He added that the administration will mobilise international backing against domestic security threats and regional instability in the Sahel. Ibrahim also called for UN reforms and a permanent African seat on the Security Council to enhance global peace and security. Highlighting economic reforms under President Tinubu, he acknowledged short-term challenges but expressed confidence in long-term gains. He reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to climate action, international tax reforms, and multilateral cooperation for sustainable development and peace.
