Legislative Group Demands Speaker Produce Proof of Chinda’s APC Defection and Minority Leader Resignation
The Association of Legislative Drafting and Advocacy Practitioners has asked Speaker Tajudeen Abbas to release House records confirming that Kingsley Chinda formally defected to the APC and resigned as Minority Leader on the floor of the House. In a lawsuit filed at the Abuja Federal High Court, the group argues that Chinda’s move may have violated Section 68(1)(g) of the 1999 Constitution and Supreme Court rulings on legislative defections. They have served a Freedom of Information request seeking Hansard entries, votes of proceedings and order papers from March and April 2026 as evidence. A separate statement from the Centre for Constitutional Governance and Electoral Integrity maintains that Chinda resigned his leadership role before the APC primaries and has not participated in PDP activities since. The court’s decision could determine his eligibility for the 2027 Rivers State governorship election.
