Over 60,000 Zimbabweans Return Home Amid Rising Anti-Immigrant Protests in South Africa
More than 60 000 Zimbabwean nationals have returned home after growing anti-immigrant unrest in South Africa prompted mass departures. Official figures show some 11 065 were repatriated through a joint government programme, while nearly 48 000 left voluntarily. President Emmerson Mnangagwa urged communities to welcome returnees with compassion. He said the government has put in place programmes to ensure their safe and dignified reintegration. Deputy Chief Secretary George Charamba highlighted the skills these returnees bring, especially in horticulture. He noted their expertise will support Zimbabwe’s growing economy and help meet export quotas.
