Former Inter Milan CEO Paolillo Demands Gattuso’s Ouster After Italy’s World Cup Shock — 1 of 2
1 / 2

Ex-Inter Milan chief executive Ernesto Paolillo has publicly called for Gennaro Gattuso’s dismissal after Italy failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Azzurri’s hopes ended in a heartbreaking penalty shootout loss to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Speaking to an Italian sports outlet, Paolillo said Gattuso “shouldn’t even have been appointed” as national team coach. He argued Gattuso has yet to produce significant results and lacks a clear tactical identity for the side. Paolillo also criticised the decision to replace experienced managers like Luciano Spalletti. He urged the Italian Football Federation to seek long-term stability and suggested Gian Piero Gasperini as the ideal candidate to rebuild and unite the squad.

Instead of calling for sacking, the federation should focus on penalty practice and rebuilding team morale before next qualifiers.
