Kwara APC Elders Petition Tinubu, Reject Gov AbdulRazaq’s Imposed Candidate

Kwara APC Elders Petition Tinubu, Reject Gov AbdulRazaq’s Imposed Candidate

The Kwara APC Elders Caucus, led by Sir J.B. Ayeni, visited the party’s national headquarters in Abuja to challenge Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s conduct during the recent governorship primary. The delegation accused the governor of sidelining senior party figures, fabricating vote tallies and forcing through Speaker Salihu Yakubu Danladi as the sole aspirant. They warned that accepting this outcome would spark widespread internal rebellion and damage the party’s chances in the state. After a marathon meeting in Abuja with all eleven governorship aspirants, the elders agreed to unite behind any candidate chosen through a transparent consensus process. They argued this was essential to avoid wasting resources on an unpopular nominee. Appealing directly to President Tinubu, the caucus stressed his pivotal role in liberating Kwara from the Saraki dynasty. They urged him to intervene promptly to safeguard APC’s unity and preserve the gains of the Oto Ge movement.

It seems unusual for gubernatorial primaries to sideline senior figures so openly; this approach might deepen existing party fractures instead of healing them.

Dem talk say senior elders were sidelined, but maybe the governor just wanted fresh leadership. E no mean old guards no matter.

Local party stakeholders should demand transparent primary rules and clear candidate selection criteria to prevent similar conflicts in future elections.
