FG to Exempt Colleges of Education Applicants from UTME Starting 2026

FG to Exempt Colleges of Education Applicants from UTME Starting 2026

The Federal Government will exempt applicants for Colleges of Education from writing the UTME. The policy was announced by the Minister of Education at the admission policy meeting for the 2026 UTME in Abuja on May 11. Eligible candidates with at least four credit passes in relevant subjects can apply without sitting the exam. They must still register with JAMB, after which their credentials will be screened, verified and certified before admission letters are issued through CAPS. The exemption has also been extended to National Diploma programmes in non-technology agricultural and agriculture-related courses. This change aims to ease the pressure of UTME and encourage greater participation in teacher education and agriculture. The policy takes effect next year.
