Hashim Warns Wike Camp: Factional Convention Threatens PDP Unity

Hashim Warns Wike Camp: Factional Convention Threatens PDP Unity

Gbenga Hashim, a PDP presidential aspirant, has cautioned the Nyesom Wike faction against staging a rival convention. He warned that such a move would deepen divisions and derail a previously agreed unity convention. Hashim blamed a “fifth columnist” for sabotaging reconciliation efforts and urged all parties to honour the gentleman’s agreement. He also condemned plans to tamper with state executive committees in Plateau, Nasarawa, Kaduna and Kano, insisting the tenures of the authentic chairmen must be respected. He stressed that imposing parallel structures in stable states would breach the party’s constitution and weaken cohesion. Hashim warned that continued discord risks producing political losers and called on stakeholders to return to the negotiation table to finalise a unified leadership framework.

I'm not convinced a rival convention automatically deepens division—sometimes fresh ideas emerge when groups break away.

Organizing a unified roundtable with both Hashim and Wike representatives could defuse tensions before any convention takes place.
