I hadn’t followed the developments closely and was surprised to learn that Osun currently has no legally recognised local government chairmen. A court has ruled the APC chairmen’s tenure has expired. No sensible person would support releasing local government funds to a state without constitutionally mandated leaders. The governor should now set a date for fresh council elections in line with the court’s decision. The Federal Government should withhold funding until Osun appoints lawful chairmen for its local councils.
