Over 25 Tinubu-Appointed Ambassadors Secure Agrément, Deployment to Start Soon

Over 25 Tinubu-Appointed Ambassadors Secure Agrément, Deployment to Start Soon

The Federal Government says that more than 25 of the 65 ambassadors-designate approved by President Tinubu have now received agrément from their host countries. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports that approvals arrive daily, with a three-day induction programme scheduled from the 27th to the 29th of this month. Once inducted, cleared ambassadors and, where applicable, their spouses will depart for postings. With over 70 Nigerian missions abroad, nominees who may initially be rejected by certain countries can be reassigned until every slot is filled. The ministry also issued a stern warning against the illegal use of diplomatic titles. Individuals or groups who fraudulently claim titles such as “Ambassador” or employ fake diplomatic materials face prosecution under Nigerian law.

This three-day induction sounds rushed for such critical roles, timing feels off.

They should address host country priorities in that three-day induction, na, so ambassadors are ready from day one.
