Ademola Lookman Becomes First Nigerian to Score in Madrid Derby
I find it frustrating that some still doubt Nigerian talent, while Ademola Lookman turned the Santiago Bernabéu into his stage. He drew two defenders with neat footwork before tapping home Atlético’s opener in the 33rd minute. I could almost hear the gasps when a controversial penalty gave Madrid a lifeline early in the second half. Fede Valverde levelled with a powerful drive. Lookman refused to be overshadowed. Nahuel Molina restored Atlético’s lead, and I was proud to see the “Starboy” from Lagos shine on a big night. But Vinicius Jr’s brace sealed a 3-2 win for Madrid. Despite a late red card, Atlético could not find a winner. I still believe Lookman’s historic feat as the first Nigerian scorer in this derby marks a new era for African talent in La Liga.
