UNIZIK’s 12th Ogbalu Memorial Lecture Urges Stronger Igbo Voice in Nigerian Politics
Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka hosted the 12th Chief Dr. Frederick Chigozie Ogbalu Memorial Lecture on “The Place of the Igbo Race in Nigeria.” Senator John Azuta-Mbata, President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, opened the event. He celebrated Chief Ogbalu’s dedication to Igbo language and culture and called on Ndigbo to claim their role in national affairs. The Vice-Chancellor’s office, represented by the Deputy VC (Administration), pledged ongoing support for preserving Igbo heritage. Awards were presented and cultural performances highlighted the evening. Guest lecturer Prof. Uchefula Chukwumaeze of Imo State University reviewed Igbo contributions to Nigeria’s development. He acknowledged historic challenges but encouraged persistence in leadership aspirations.
