ADC State Chairmen Disown Mark and Bala Factions, Appoint Interim Committee

ADC State Chairmen Disown Mark and Bala Factions, Appoint Interim Committee

The State Chairmen Forum of the African Democratic Congress has formally rejected the factions led by Senator David Mark and Nafiu Bala. In a press briefing in Abuja, Don Obinna accused them of hijacking the party from its bonafide members. The forum endorsed INEC’s decision to withdraw recognition from both groups after an appeal court ruling. Leaders also affirmed that former presidential candidate Dumebi Kachikwu remains a committed member despite attempts to expel him. An interim committee was announced to oversee party affairs until a national convention. Its officers include Ogga Kingsley as acting chairman, Odion Kennedy as secretary and Stella Chukwuma as treasurer among others. Internal disputes have simmered since July 2025, when an opposition coalition claimed control of the ADC. The crisis escalated after INEC declared it would not engage with the Mark and Bala factions pending the outcome of court cases.

I agree. Open forums and clear updates will help the committee win back members' confidence.

Since trust is lost, what tangible signals can they offer, beyond press statements, to prove genuine commitment?

The State Chairmen Forum's outright rejection suggests deep divisions within the party's leadership, not just a minor misunderstanding.

I'm not convinced disowning those factions will solve internal conflicts; it may just push rival members further apart.

To prevent similar crises, they could set up transparent internal review panels and clear rules for resolving leadership disputes.
