Half the World’s Oil Supply Comes from Just Five Countries
In 2025, just five nations produced half of global crude oil output. The United States, Russia and Saudi Arabia alone accounted for nearly 40% of total production. The U.S. led the pack at 13.58 million barrels per day, followed by Russia at 9.87 and Saudi Arabia at 9.51. Middle Eastern producers collectively supplied 32.1% of the world’s oil, with Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran, the UAE and Kuwait all in the top ten. That high level of concentration means a handful of countries dominate the global market. The top ten producers were responsible for 72.2% of output, leaving all other nations contributing less than 28% combined. Ongoing conflict in Iran has disrupted regional production and tightened supply routes, especially around the Strait of Hormuz. These events highlight the heavy influence a few key players hold over global energy security. (Data source: U.S. Energy Information Administration)
