Marriage Should Build You, Not Break You

I agree that a healthy marriage should be built on tolerance, forgiveness, communication and mutual respect. Couples should understand why they chose each other and work towards shared goals. Bill and Melinda Gates showed that even when a marriage ends, separation does not have to become a public war. Protecting each other’s dignity, especially where children, family and shared history are involved, matters. Marriage should make both partners better and more responsible. It should not become a source of constant humiliation, resentment or emotional harm. And when staying together is no longer healthy, letting go with maturity and respect can also be an act of love.
