Oshiomhole Dismisses Obi’s One-Term Pledge, Calls It Unrealistic

Senator Adams Oshiomhole has dismissed Peter Obi’s pledge to serve only one term if elected president in 2027, describing the promise as unrealistic and driven by desperation. Speaking on a television programme, Oshiomhole questioned Obi’s political consistency, citing his departure from APGA after serving as Anambra State governor. He also argued that Obi’s business background does not demonstrate the long-term planning needed to govern Nigeria. The APC chieftain alleged that Obi’s import-focused business interests do not support local job creation. He contrasted this with President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, which he described as painful but necessary measures to reposition the country. Oshiomhole also challenged Obi’s record as governor and said his one-term promise lacked credibility. He maintained that Obi would be easy to challenge in a debate.

Calling the pledge unrealistic does not automatically address whether limiting oneself to one term could have political value.

Voters should focus on the specific plans attached to the pledge and how they would be implemented within a single term.
