Supreme Court Fixes Date for Judgment in Turaki’s PDP Convention Appeal

Supreme Court Fixes Date for Judgment in Turaki’s PDP Convention Appeal

The Supreme Court has reserved judgment in Kabiru Tanimu Turaki’s appeal over the validity of last year’s PDP national convention in Ibadan. A five-member panel led by Justice Lawal Garba made the announcement after lawyers adopted their written arguments for and against the appeal. Turaki’s camp argues this dispute is an internal party affair and that due process was followed. Lower courts had invalidated the Ibadan convention, barred INEC from recognising its outcomes and restricted access to the party’s national secretariat. The earlier rulings by the Court of Appeal and the Federal High Court focused on allegations that valid state congresses were not held and that former Jigawa governor Sule Lamido was denied the chance to contest the national chairmanship. The date for the Supreme Court’s final decision will be communicated to the parties.

A five-member panel indicates serious scrutiny, but timing alone won't settle questions around last year's Ibadan convention.

Fixing a date sounds like progress, but e fit just delay real answers about that Ibadan convention's legitimacy.

Stakeholders should track the Supreme Court's schedule closely and prepare responses if the judgment sparks fresh disputes in PDP.
