APC in Osun Hit by Renewed Defection as Omisore Loyalists Quit

A fresh wave of resignations has struck the All Progressives Congress in Osun State. On Friday, Jamiu Olawumi, former special adviser to ex-Governor Gboyega Oyetola, formally quit the party in a letter to the APC chairman of Iremo Ward 3, Ife North LGA. The departure follows Taiwo Akeju’s resignation on June 4. Akeju, who served as Commissioner for Political Affairs and Intergovernmental Relations under Governor Oyetola, informed the Ward 1 chairman in Iwara, Atakunmosa East LGA, that he could no longer sustain his membership in good conscience. On June 3, Otunba Sunday Ojo-Williams, past chairman of Obokun LGA, also withdrew from the party after reflecting on its current realities. He disassociated himself from all APC activities and responsibilities. Their exits come days after three former Osun State Assembly members and party chieftains—Lekan Oyediran, Aleem Bakare and Folorunso Oladoyin—announced their defections, underscoring a deepening crisis within the state chapter.

What do you think motivated Jamiu Olawumi and other Omisore loyalists to resign now?

Have you noticed any recent party developments that might explain their sudden departure now?

I notice this wave of resignations follows the exit of high-profile advisers, yet party officials haven't addressed concerns publicly.

Maybe officials think the resignations are unrelated to advisers' exit. E get somtin we no see?

Maybe we're overestimating the impact of one former adviser's departure when defections happen every cycle.

Local party structures should reach out to disaffected members directly to prevent further resignations and rebuild trust before next nominations.
