Can the ₦1 Trillion 7th Axial Road Prevent Lekki From Becoming Another Apapa?

The Federal Government is developing the 7th Axial Road to link the Lekki Free Trade Zone with Nigeria’s major highway network. The route is expected to give trucks, tankers and container vehicles an alternative to the congested Lekki-Epe Expressway. The project is becoming more important as the Dangote Refinery, Lekki Deep Sea Port and Lekki Free Trade Zone expand. Its supporters say it could help prevent cargo traffic in the Lekki corridor from reaching Apapa-level gridlock. Will the 7th Axial Road be enough to meet Lekki’s fast-growing transport needs, or will development eventually outpace the infrastructure?
