How Alex Otti Convinced President Tinubu to Upgrade Abia’s Airstrip to an International Airport
The Aviation Minister explained that Abia State was initially earmarked for a simple airstrip in the 2024 budget. When Governor Alex Otti met with President Tinubu, he proposed a counterpart funding plan to turn it into a full international airport. Otti’s intervention secured more funds from Abia than the federal allocation. Work on the Umuahia airport project has already begun under his leadership. Keyamo also revealed ongoing talks for a direct cargo route from Guangzhou, China to Enugu. The new link aims to make Enugu the South-East’s cargo hub and will operate twice weekly, benefiting traders in Onitsha, Aba and beyond.
