GRV: Bad Governance Is Turning Nigerian Homes Into ‘WhatsApp Families’

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour says poor governance and economic hardship are forcing many Nigerians to remain abroad, leaving families separated for years. Speaking on a podcast, the Lagos ADC governorship candidate said rising travel costs have made it difficult for people in the diaspora to visit home. He described affected households as “WhatsApp families” that depend on video calls to stay connected. He said the situation leaves elderly parents lonely and prevents some grandparents from meeting their grandchildren until they are several years old. According to him, many Nigerians would return home if governance improved and they regained confidence in the country’s future.
