Edo Governor Okpebholo Teams Up with Federal Environment Ministry to Protect State’s Ecosystem

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has pledged deeper collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Environment to safeguard Edo’s natural resources and tackle key environmental threats. He made the commitment during a courtesy visit by Minister Balarabe Abbas Lawal at the Government House in Benin City. The governor announced plans to establish a committee tasked with curbing encroachment into national parks and other protected areas. He emphasized that sustainable resource management is central to Edo’s development agenda and essential for future prosperity. Minister Lawal commended Edo for creating Nigeria’s first state Forestry Commission and warned against rising deforestation risks. The meeting underlined both levels of government’s resolve to deepen cooperation on conservation, climate resilience and biodiversity protection.
