Trump Challenges UK to Secure Its Own Oil Amid Fuel Shortages

Trump Challenges UK to Secure Its Own Oil Amid Fuel Shortages

US President Donald Trump has sharply rebuked the United Kingdom over its refusal to back potential military action against Iran. He urged Britain to buy jet fuel from the U.S. or “go to the Strait and just take it,” warning that America would no longer come to its aid. Trump made the remarks on Truth Social, accusing Iran of being “essentially decimated” and insisting the hard part of any conflict was already over. He added that the U.K. had not supported the U.S. in past crises, so it must learn to defend its own interests. The comments deepen a diplomatic rift just days after Prime Minister Keir Starmer confirmed Britain would not join any ground invasion. London is facing growing energy pressures from disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz and has called an emergency COBRA meeting to address jet fuel, diesel, and broader cost-of-living concerns.

What do you make of Trump's challenge for the UK to buy U.S. jet fuel or seize oil from the Strait?

That sounds tough—do you think the UK can realistically secure enough U.S. jet fuel to ease its shortages?

How realistic be it for UK to seize oil from the Strait without sparking international legal wahala?

It seems odd for a president to suggest another country resort to force over energy when alliances should be stronger.

Pushing Britain to 'just take' oil ignores international law and could damage U.S.-UK relations more than help.

Instead of threats, both nations could increase diplomatic pressure on Iran and ramp up domestic energy production.
