Why Nigeria’s 2027 Election Should Prioritize Merit Over Zoning
Calls for “the South’s turn” feel like political blackmail, not principle. In 2015, APC ignored zoning when Goodluck Jonathan sought re-election. Nobody raised a moral alarm. Today, zoning rhetoric masks growing hardship under President Tinubu. Insecurity is rising, the economy is strained, and blackout persists. Elections should reward good governance, not geography. There is no national law binding parties to zoning. Just as APC broke that rule in 2015, other parties can do the same in 2027. Nigeria isn’t a relay race—competence, not convenience, must guide our choice.
