FG to Settle N8bn in Scholarship Arrears for Affected Students
The Federal Government has pledged to clear N8 billion in unpaid funds owed under the now-scrapped Bilateral Education Agreement scholarship programme. Education Minister Tunji Alausa told Channels Television that N4 billion has already been released and the remaining amount will be approved within two weeks. He criticised widespread abuses of the scheme, noting cases where recipients drew funds while studying in Nigeria or pursued courses like English in Morocco. The programme, which ran until 2025, sponsored students to China, Russia, Morocco, Hungary, Egypt and Serbia.
