NYSC DG Urges Employers to Enhance Corps Members’ Welfare at 2026 Osun Workshop

NYSC DG Urges Employers to Enhance Corps Members’ Welfare at 2026 Osun Workshop

At the NYSC Corps Employers’ Workshop in Osogbo, Osun State, Director General Brigadier-General O.O. Nafiu outlined key duties for organisations hosting corps members. He stressed the need for meaningful job assignments that match qualifications, alongside proper mentorship and supervision. Speaking through a representative, the DG highlighted employers’ statutory responsibilities under the NYSC Act. These include providing suitable accommodation or a housing allowance, transportation support, security, and allowing time for community development service and official NYSC activities. The workshop theme, “Fine-tuning Stakeholders’ Collaboration for Enhanced Corps Members’ Welfare and Workplace Experience,” brought together NYSC officials, state government representatives, security agencies, traditional leaders, development partners, media, and corps members. Participants discussed ways to foster safe, supportive, discrimination-free work environments that boost morale, productivity, and professional growth. Officials from the Osun State Government reaffirmed their commitment to youth development and collaboration with NYSC. They urged all employers to actively support corps members and deliver practical recommendations to strengthen partnerships and improve the service year experience.

I'm not sure mandatory mentorship arrangements won't just add bureaucracy and slow down projects without guaranteeing real learning for corps members.
