‘We Thought Davido’s Message Was a Scam’ — Mayorkun’s Mum Reveals

Nollywood actress Toyin Adewale recalls how her son Mayorkun first connected with Afrobeats star Davido. She says they thought his initial message praising Mayorkun’s viral cover of “The Money” was a scam. After a phone call and a face-to-face meeting, Davido gifted Mayorkun money and items. The next week, they recorded “Eleko” together and Mayorkun moved into Davido’s DMW house with his brother. Adewale says Davido was respectful and supportive during their stay. Since leaving DMW in 2021, Mayorkun has released his second album, “Back In Office,” under Sony Music West Africa.

Next time an unknown number praises your work, verify with a quick call before ignoring. Na small step, big impact.
