Customs Busts ₦98m Smuggling Haul: From Used Clothes to Donkey Meat and Viagra
The Nigeria Customs Service in Adamawa/Taraba has intercepted contraband valued at about ₦98 million during intensified anti-smuggling operations. Seizures over six weeks included 43 jumbo sacks of second-hand clothes, cartons of unregistered pharmaceuticals (including Viagra), 500 raw donkey skins and 460 kg of dried donkey meat. Officers also impounded hundreds of jerricans of Premium Motor Spirit and Automotive Gas Oil along routes such as Savannah–Numan, Mubi–Sangere and Ganye–Toungo. Comptroller Mohammed Mato said the intelligence-driven raids uphold the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023. He warned that smuggling threatens economic stability and national security. Offenders will be prosecuted, and those involved in illicit trade are urged to pursue lawful enterprises.
