Nursing Assistant Dies During Cosmetic Butt Filler Removal Surgery in Colombia

A 41-year-old nursing assistant from New York travelled to Medellín, Colombia to remove toxic biopolymer butt fillers. The operation took place on June 18 at a clinic inside the El Tesoro shopping centre in El Poblado. About an hour into the procedure, she suffered a cardio-respiratory arrest. Medical staff performed advanced resuscitation, including electric shocks for more than 40 minutes, but could not revive her. Authorities have opened an investigation. Forensic experts will conduct a full autopsy, and health regulators are reviewing the clinic’s licences and staff qualifications. This is the second recent death linked to cosmetic procedures in the city, leading to inspections and the closure of several establishments.
