Lagos Tightens Ebola Screening at MMIA Amid Renewed Outbreak Concerns
The Lagos State Government has stepped up surveillance at Murtala Muhammed International Airport to prevent the possible importation of Ebola following new outbreaks in East and Central Africa. The Health Commissioner led an inspection with federal and state agencies to strengthen systems for early detection, rapid isolation and digital monitoring of passengers from high-risk countries. Measures include touchless hand-sanitiser stations, temperature scanners and plans for dedicated arrival channels. Building on lessons from the 2014 Ebola response and the COVID-19 pandemic, authorities are enhancing coordination between state and federal teams. Frontline workers have been urged to follow strict infection-prevention protocols and maintain vigilance against all imported disease threats.
