Two Ladipo Market Traders Jailed for Five Years Over 55.6kg Cannabis Seizure
Justice Akintayo Aluko of the Federal High Court in Lagos has sentenced two traders, Ezeifeoma Michael and Philip Ucheka, to five years’ imprisonment each for trafficking 55.60kg of cannabis sativa. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency told the court the pair were arrested on November 27, 2025 at Ladipo Spare Parts Market. Officers found the drug hidden in a grey Toyota Sienna and an ash-coloured Hyundai Veloster. Both men pleaded guilty to an amended charge under Section 11(b) of the NDLEA Act. Their defence counsel sought non-custodial terms, citing first-time status and remorse. The judge ruled the offence’s seriousness required a prison term but allowed each convict to pay a ₦2 million fine instead of jail time. The two vehicles have been forfeited to the Federal Government.
