Nigerian Man in India Struggles to Post Bail After Year Behind Bars

Nigerian Man in India Struggles to Post Bail After Year Behind Bars

A Nigerian national, Ezeonyili Franklin Uchenna alias Kelech, was arrested in a pan-India narcotics operation worth ₹9.5 crore. He spent over a year in judicial remand before winning bail in April. The court ordered a personal bond of ₹25,000 and two sureties of the same amount. Kelech says he cannot raise the ₹50,000 surety. He petitioned to cut it to ₹5,000. On Friday the court reduced the required surety to ₹15,000, noting his poor financial capacity. Authorities allege he worked for Divine Ebuka Suzee and Uche Happiness’s drug network. Police seized 17 grams of MDMA and recovered a pen drive listing 411 Africans, along with transaction receipts tying him to the ₹9.5 crore operation.

Absolutely, facing unfamiliar legal terms and paperwork overseas can feel like a never-ending maze.

It's odd that a narcotics operation worth ₹9.5 crore leads to a mere ₹25,000 personal bond despite a year in remand.

That is truly unsettling. Such a serious case and a small bond seem so out of proportion.

Contact the embassy and a reputable local lawyer early, clarify bail terms fully, and secure reliable sureties before attempting bond.
