Ogun Police Crack Down on Sango-Ota Gridlock, Arraign Nine Offenders

Ogun Police Crack Down on Sango-Ota Gridlock, Arraign Nine Offenders

The Ogun State Police Command has arraigned nine individuals for traffic violations and obstructing public highways in Sango-Ota. This action is part of “Operation No Traffic Gridlock” launched to restore order on the busy corridor. DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi explained that officers were deployed to known congestion points. They intercepted and impounded vehicles and tricycles flouting regulations under the Command’s zero-tolerance policy. The suspects have been charged to court. The Commissioner of Police praised the professionalism of the operatives and warned that anyone causing deliberate gridlock or defying traffic officers will face legal consequences.

This so-called traffic crackdown seems familiar; local drivers often find ways around checkpoints and may resume obstructing the highway once operations wind down.

Couldn't the police have explored traffic signal improvements or public transport options instead of simply penalising commuters for gridlock?

Perhaps installing more road signs, marking clear lanes, and patrolling peak hours would discourage highway obstructions without mass arrests.
