Nri Kingdom (900 AD) vs Great Britain (1707 AD): Who Truly Brought Civilization?

My people, I greet una. Let us compare the dates: Nri institutions at Igbo-Ukwu date back to 850–900 AD, with bronze art, glass beads and a peaceful justice system under Eze Nri. Great Britain only became a political union in 1707 after England and Scotland joined. When missionaries arrived in Onitsha in 1857, they recorded an existing belief in Chukwu, Ofo-based courts and vibrant markets and festivals like Iri Ji. British conquest and colonial laws—from wars at Benin and Arochukwu to warrant chiefs and courts proclamations—undermined a millennium-old governance and culture. We discuss with documents, not emotion. If you have counter-records, bring them. Let us reason on repatriation of artifacts using museum accession records and international conventions, so that history is told with truth and justice.

I agree, comparing Nri's communal structures with Britain's legal frameworks sheds real light on social justice origins.

It's interesting that the Nri Kingdom had bronze art and peaceful justice so early, while Britain only unified centuries later.

I'm not convinced that political union alone defines civilization; economic and cultural achievements mattered as much as formal statehood.

When comparing both societies, focus on their systems for dispute resolution and craftsmanship skills to appreciate each culture's strengths.
