Sierra Leone Receives First Group of West African Migrants Deported from US
On May 20, Sierra Leone received nine West African migrants deported from the United States under President Trump’s immigration crackdown. The group included citizens of Nigeria, Ghana, Guinea and Senegal. They landed at Freetown International Airport and were met by police, medics and government officials. Most said they were traumatised after months in chains. They will stay in Sierra Leone for up to 90 days before returning home under a programme funded by the US with $1.5m in humanitarian and operational support.
