Supreme Court Upholds Anyanwu Suspension, Declares Party Convention Void
The Supreme Court of Nigeria delivered a unanimous judgment upholding the suspension of Samuel Anyanwu and three others. It ruled that the judiciary cannot intervene in internal party affairs. The court declared the March 2026 convention and the appointment of Abdulrahman Mohammed null and void. All actions taken by the suspended faction during their suspension are legally invalid. The ruling reaffirms the National Working Committee’s authority to discipline members under party rules. INEC, financial institutions, and security agencies have been directed to recognize only the leadership that existed before the disputed convention. Members are urged to remain calm and united as the party restores its internal order.
