Mexico Denies Capture of El Chapo’s Brother After Major Cartel Raid
A large security operation in Mexico’s Tringulo Dorado region sparked rumors of a high-profile arrest. The raid involved Black Hawk helicopters, surveillance aircraft and coordinated ground forces near the Sinaloa-Durango border. Speculation grew that Aureliano Guzmán Loera, a senior Sinaloa Cartel figure and brother of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, had been detained. Mexico’s Defence Ministry later denied his capture while confirming arrests were made pending further investigation. The U.S. State Department still offers up to $5 million for information leading to his arrest and conviction. Guzmán Loera is wanted for large-scale trafficking of cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, marijuana and fentanyl. Analysts say the Sinaloa Cartel has fragmented into competing factions in recent years. This internal split has fueled violence and intensified pressure on Mexican authorities to dismantle the cartel network.
