Tinubu, Mastercard to Empower Five Million Nigerian SMEs with Digital Skills

President Bola Tinubu met Mastercard’s CEO in Abuja to discuss expanding digital training for Nigeria’s youth and small businesses. He hailed the country’s workforce as a key asset and welcomed a proposal to train five million enterprises in digital payment tools. The President and Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele highlighted recent economic reforms that have driven 10,000 daily registrations of informal businesses. They said formalising small enterprises and equipping them with digital skills will boost investment, employment, and growth across Nigeria. Mastercard’s CEO Michael Miebach reaffirmed the company’s commitment to Nigeria, noting initiatives to prevent fraud, attract foreign exchange, and roll out a three-year programme to upskill up to 40 million small businesses in cyber safety and payment systems.
