Christ Chosen Church Retires Apostle Pius Igberase After Disciplinary Hearings, Debunks Bribery Rumours
The leadership of Christ Chosen Church of God International has issued its first official statement on the retirement of Apostle Pius Igberase and the viral rumours surrounding it. In Benin City, Secretary General Apostle Jones Ikibeh and PRO Apostle Newton Egharevba confirmed that an internal disciplinary panel was convened after concerns arose when the Spiritual Leader returned from a working visit on May 18, 2026. Apostle Igberase faced allegations of usurping authority, inciting dissent, wearing an unapproved cassock at the baptism service, disorderly conduct at the women’s convention, promoting tribalism, and failing household leadership standards. A 21-member panel chaired by Apostle E. Akugue found his explanations unsatisfactory and recommended dismissal. The Spiritual Leader instead approved retirement with full severance as an act of restraint. The church also dismissed claims that panel members received ₦1 million each to sway the outcome, calling circulating videos and documents misleading. It warned against threats to lock branches and disrupt operations, pledging legal action to protect its property. Members are urged to rely on official channels and avoid unverified information to maintain unity and the church’s gospel mission.
