Jigawa Governor Sets Up Task Force and Mobilisation Drive to Fight Drug Abuse

The Jigawa State Governor has signed two executive orders to tackle drug abuse and promote social values across the state. One order creates the Jigawa State Task Force on Drug Abuse Control to coordinate prevention, treatment and enforcement. The other launches a Mass Mobilisation for Social Reorientation initiative, aimed at instilling patriotism, discipline and respect for the law. The governor highlighted the urgency of the move after recent unrest showed how idle youth can fall prey to destructive influences. He called on parents, community leaders and partners to back programmes in skills training, entrepreneurship and civic engagement to safeguard the state’s future.

I believe a dedicated task force can boost community awareness, offer early support, and gradually reduce youth involvement in drug misuse.

A new task force alone won't fix deep-rooted social issues if community voices and grassroots groups aren't included from the start.

Partnering with local schools and healthcare centres for early intervention could help the mobilisation drive reach vulnerable youths faster.
