Kaduna Government Detains Activist for Urging Voters to Reject Tinubu and Sani

The Kaduna State Government under Governor Uba Sani has ordered the arrest of activist Zamani Musa, known as Mycah Dangata. He had publicly called on residents to vote against the APC, including President Bola Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani. Authorities say the arrest followed a circulated video in which Dangata declared support for the National Democratic Coalition and former Senator Danjuma Laah. He also accused the governor of imposing unpopular candidates and praised former Governor Nasir El-Rufai's people-oriented leadership. Operation Fushin Kaduna, a task force led by the state police, carried out the detention. Critics warn the move may threaten free speech as the next elections approach.

Detaining someone for political speech feels heavy-handed, no doubt. It risks chilling public debate and voters' confidence.

It seems odd that a state government would treat political speech as criminal and not a democratic right.

Detaining someone simply for urging voters to reject leaders feels like an overreach and sets a dangerous precedent.

Voters should document any intimidation incidents and report them to independent observers before casting ballots this election season.
