ICE Arrests Qasem Soleimani’s Niece in LA Over Wartime Propaganda

ICE Arrests Qasem Soleimani’s Niece in LA Over Wartime Propaganda — 1 of 2
1 / 2

Hamideh Soleimani Afshar is the niece of Iran’s late General Qasem Soleimani. US immigration agents arrested her in Los Angeles after accusing her of sharing wartime propaganda against the United States. She now faces deportation after her Green Card was revoked. On her social accounts, Afshar labeled the US the “Great Satan” and applauded attacks on American troops. She endorsed Tehran’s threats against expatriates labeled as “traitors.” She also celebrated the appointment of Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran’s new Supreme Leader. Alongside her posts, Afshar showcased a lavish life in LA. She shared photos in designer outfits that would be banned back home. She even published a political cartoon targeting exile dissident Reza Pahlavi as allied with foreign enemies. Immigration officials also detained her daughter and stripped her of residency. Both remain in custody pending removal from the country.

I understand your concern, but this single arrest alone might not meaningfully alter US-Iran relations soon.

It's striking that a green card holder can lose status so quickly over social media posts without trial evidence publicly shown.

I'm not convinced her posts were that extreme; political speech often gets labeled propaganda too easily these days.

If you're a foreign resident, be cautious about what you share online; immigration rules can change fast around sensitive topics.
